Ranking 10 Screen Rant Lists

We had to do it.

Listeners of the podcast, you know how much we've loved and loved to hate the Dawson's Creek related lists on Screen Rant. For our finale, we wanted to – as a joke – make our own lists. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to include it into our "graduation" episode recording, but we can't let the hard work of ranking things go to waste. So here they are...

Traci:
  1. Dawson's Creek: 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More) – #JusticeForAndie #JusticeForJen ... Need I say more?
  2. Dawson’s Creek: 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Outfits – Fashion lists are just fun, especially when we look at the fashion of the late '90s/early '00s. I also love that a good number of these trends (even the bad ones) are making their way back into fashion now.
  3. Dawson’s Creek: 10 Most Hated Storylines – I agree with all of these, though I'd like to throw in the shitty boys who were interested in Jen (Ty, Henry, Oliver, CJ...) into the mix too. Seriously: #JusticeForJen
  4. Dawson's Creek: 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters – I wouldn't put my #1 question as "Where's Audrey?" but this is a good sampling of some basic questions. #JusticeForAndie
  5. Dawson's Creek Characters Sorted Into Their Hogwarts Houses – We talked about this on pod, but we disagreed with a good number of these answers. Dawson is definitely a Gryffindor, Jen could fall into the Slytherin category (there's nothing wrong with being a Slytherin!), Jack would probably be a Hufflepuff, and Audrey would be Slytherin IMO.
  6. Dawson’s Creek: The Worst Thing Each Main Character Has Done – Abby and Jack have definitely done worst things. Also, I think we talked about this on pod too, but saying Joey's worst thing she's done has to do with her choice of romantic partner is bad.
  7. Dawson's Creek: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters – There are characters missing from this list that absolutely deserve to be on here over some of the ones listed.
  8. Dawson’s Creek: 10 Things About The Teen Drama That Make No Sense – I wouldn't really say a lot of these "make no sense." Jack joining a frat, for instance, makes sense. It's just that the show didn't develop the storyline well. Also, this list isn't totally factually correct... Jen and Pacey never slept together!
  9. Dawson’s Creek: 5 Best Friendships (& 5 Worst) – I mean, this list is fine, but I don't like that the "worst" ones are all female friendships. Just highlights one of my frustrations with the show...
  10. Dawson's Creek: 10 Couples That Would Have Made A Lot Of Sense (But Never Got Together) – As Charles identifies in his reasoning... half of these don't make sense.
Charles:
  1. Dawson's Creek: 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More) – This is the perfect framework for a list, and I don't think there's anything you can really disagree with. It also gives you some great nostalgia for Dawson's Creek. It's the platonic ideal.
  2. Dawson’s Creek: 5 Best Friendships (& 5 Worst) – I love love love this list. There's a lot of on point analysis. Sure, I don't agree with everything (I don't think Dawson/Pacey is THAT bad), but I can at least understand the reasoning behind the pics.
  3. Dawson's Creek: 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters – I also have many of these questions.
  4. Dawson’s Creek: 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Outfits – Great list material! And also educational. Learning about satin dresses was fun. I just wish it were a little more connected to the characters.
  5. Dawson's Creek Characters Sorted Into Their Hogwarts Houses – Now we're getting into the fun list category! My only complaint about this one is that I disagree with some of their picks. Jack strikes me as more of a Hufflepuff. Andie DEFINITELY has a strong Slytherin streak to her Ravenclaw-ness. You can't just make all the characters you don't like Slytherins.
  6. Dawson’s Creek: 10 Most Hated Storylines – Same complaint as for the last list, but at least you're not grumpy at specific characters afterward.
  7. Dawson’s Creek: The Worst Thing Each Main Character Has Done – Factually, this list is correct. But is anyone better off having read it? It just makes me grumpy. (Also they DEFINITELY pulled punches on Jack.)
  8. Dawson’s Creek: 10 Things About The Teen Drama That Make No Sense – This is putting an adult analytic lens on teenaged characters!! Unfair.
  9. Dawson's Creek: 10 Couples That Would Have Made A Lot Of Sense (But Never Got Together) – Half these couples make no sense.
  10. Dawson's Creek: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters – In keeping with my #DawsonsCreekTaughtMe, I just think it's kind of mean spirited to judge any of the supporting characters /too/ much? There are some bad supporting characters on here, but Drue, Oliver, and Cliff were just trying their best.
Thanks for the entertainment, Screen Rant :)

  1. I didn't read all of these, but have thoughts on a few:

Dawson's Creek: 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters – I have a lot of feelings about #6 (relating to P/Jo and whether Pacey moves to NY and abandons Capeside). Pacey says in the finale that he's up to his eyeballs in debt and we learn that the Ice House has only been open for six months. Restaurants don't make money quickly, especially in small towns with a very seasonal tourism industry, and financially it would be very difficult for him to sell the business and move to New York at that early point in time. I also don't believe that Joey would want him to. I actually have a whole detailed headcanon around what happens next (someone hire me to write a revival) which ultimately involves Pacey and Joey settling in Capeside and raising their family there. I know, it's not what Joey wanted, but that's kind of the point. I like KW's idea of Dawson having achieved success from a financial/work perspective but not emotionally (e.g. not being married, or being divorced), and would love to explore the dichotomy of Dawson feeling like he sacrificed love to follow his dreams, while Joey is wondering if she sacrificed her dreams for love. I don't want to see a revival with a divorced P/Jo, but I would watch a separated Jack/Doug struggling to reconcile shared custody of Jen's headstrong teenage daughter and gradually working out their relationship because we got gipped out of seeing them get together in the show. The last thing I want is to watch Pacey and Joey "fall in love all over again" because the more times a show breaks a couple up, the harder it is for me to believe in them as a valid pairing. I want them happy, and functional, and raising their children to the best of their abilities (I actually think they'd be pretty great parents) and I want to see grown-up Alexander and whatever happened to Lily Leery anyway...

Ahem. I have too many thoughts. Back to the lists.

Okay, there is no way that Dawson is a Hufflepuff. He thinks he's a Gryffindor, but he's actually a Slytherin because he's out for himself before anyone else, thinks he's the hero but is actually the villain. Pacey is a Gryffindor, no dispute there! Same with Joey being a Ravenclaw (snap, girl) and IMO Jen is a Hufflepuff. She's actually the sweetest and she only acts out when led astray or in times of great emotional turmoil. Andie is also a Ravenclaw IMO, although I agree she has a Slytherin streak, and Jack is definitely a Hufflepuff. (This list is better than the Buffy one though, which is abjectly wrong in the majority of cases - Riley is no Gryffindor.)

Finally - why would anyone hate Cliff? He's the only actually NICE person Jen ever dates. #JusticeforCliff (Strong disagree on Drue and Oliver "trying their best" because they were both arrogant jerks - on a show full of good kids raised by terrible parents, you can't throw in a kid like Drue who is a raging a-hole for most of the season and blame it all on his daddy abandoning him. It still irks me when Joey feels sorry for him at the end of the episode when they get locked in the storage room and he sexually assaults her (twice) just because he didn't want to go and see his daddy that weekend. Wish she'd told him to grow up and deal with his feelings instead of trying to dump them all on her. But Joey does like doing mens' emotional labour for them, so I guess it fits. It's just depressing to watch.)
